Every years on the 2th of May in Caravaca de la Cruz is celebrating the Wine horse running, and jubilee years. There are many Caballeros are preparing for the wine horse running competitions that, they’re representing 60th families. This, means there are 60 horses that running to the race. Every Caballero is preparing himself at the running with its horse for 1 year every days until the start competition day. The celebration of this festivities, and the competition between the 60th families is feel at all of them, in fact the competitive between the families is high. The race between all of them is at the same time very strong and genuine, they’re running for win cup and take at home honor, glory and respect for their horse and their representation house.
How its works? The peculiarity here is that four young men have to run together with the horse without ever releasing their hold so as not to be disqualified. There are prizes not only for the quickest horses, but also for the most beautiful and for the best dressed ones. During the race, the Caravaca’s streets are totally crowd from the people and tourist that come from to every part of Spain and abroad.
Before the race, all horses they had been dressed with a beautiful and colored clothed. The loser of the race, are completely overwhelmed by the disappointment of falling to win and sometimes the runners, crying on the floor. It’s not an usually fact. Happen every year. As I said before, they’re very attached at they horses and they’re families. To be a Caballeros is a great honor but at the same time means have a responsibility to take care of the horse during all the year, and represent in the best way the family.
